…wasn’t BIM supposed to make everything easier?🙃

We remember working on a Public project where everything was set up for success, BIM was mandated by the UK Government, therefore:

✅ BIM was implemented!

✅ Standards & Workflows were in place!

✅ Models were built to perfection!

Then Construction Stage began and….

❌ The data was in the model, yet neither the contractor, cost managers, nor facilities teams were using it…

❌ The contractor had full access to BIM models but still relied solely on 2D drawings…

❌ BIM coordination was ongoing, clash reports were generated… and promptly ignored.

And then came the question: “Why did we even bother with BIM?”

Sounds familiar? BIM isn’t a magic wand 🤷‍♀️ If there’s no clear strategy and no accountability for actually using BIM throughout the project lifecycle, it quickly turns into just another expensive exercise.

What’s your experience? What’s the biggest BIM implementation mistake you’ve seen?
