Ever seen #EIR that was just… one-page? 🧐
We did!!!! 🤚 At the early stages of a #DataCentre framework across Europe! We turned a one-page EIR into a solid, ISO 19650-compliant document that helped deliver BIM consistently across a European data centre framework.
We were brought in to carry out #ProjectBIMManagement at RIBA Stage 3 to ensure each framework project in multiple locations could be swiftly executed by all contractors from RIBA Stage 4 onwards and delivered consistently.
Sounds exciting, right? Until the client handed us their EIR that was literally one page long…🤔
At that moment, we knew the project could go very wrong, very fast if we didn’t fix this 💁♀️
Therefore, we sat down with the client’s newly appointed Information Manager, and co-wrote the Exchange Information Requirements (EIR), guiding them on:
✅ What they actually needed (and didn’t need)
✅ Essential sections of an EIR and how to structure them so that it secures the client & the projects
✅ Aligning the EIR with ISO 19650 to meet Client’s goals
✅ Only including requirements that add real value, both during delivery and for Facilities Management (FM) / #DigitalTwin
✅ Ensuring smooth & consistent execution across the framework
The result? A well-structured Exchange Information Requirements (EIR) document, which is critical in BIM Management, especially for multi-location Data Centre projects 🎉 ...and not just another document to tick a box 🫣
We know we are not the only one who’s seen questionable EIRs in my career. What’s the worst or best EIR you’ve come across? Drop your war stories👇
***This is how a one-page EIR became the foundation for consistent, ISO 19650-driven BIM success across a European framework.
